HeartMate
HeartMate is a type of mechanical device known as a left ventricular assist device (LVAD). It is designed to help patients with severe heart failure by assisting the heart in pumping blood throughout the body. The device is implanted surgically and can be used as a bridge to heart transplantation or as a long-term solution for those who are not candidates for a transplant.
The HeartMate system consists of a pump that is connected to the heart and a controller that manages its operation. Patients with a HeartMate device often experience improved quality of life and increased physical activity, as it helps alleviate symptoms associated with heart failure, such as fatigue and shortness of breath.
