Harmonized System
The Harmonized System (HS) is an international standardized system for classifying traded products. Developed by the World Customs Organization (WCO), it uses a numerical code to categorize goods, making it easier for countries to communicate about trade. The HS is updated every five years to reflect changes in technology and trade patterns.
Countries use the HS for various purposes, including customs duties, trade statistics, and regulations. The system consists of over 5,000 commodity groups, each identified by a unique six-digit code. This helps streamline international trade and ensures consistency in product classification across different nations.
