Hansen Test
The Hansen Test is a diagnostic procedure used to detect the presence of the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae, which causes leprosy. This test involves examining skin samples for specific changes that indicate infection. It helps in identifying the disease early, allowing for timely treatment and management.
In addition to the skin examination, the Hansen Test may also include a patient’s medical history and symptoms. Early detection is crucial, as it can prevent complications and reduce the risk of transmission. The test is named after the Norwegian physician Gerhard Armauer Hansen, who discovered the leprosy bacterium in the 19th century.
