Hanford
The Hanford Site is a decommissioned nuclear production complex located in Washington State. Established during World War II as part of the Manhattan Project, it played a crucial role in producing plutonium for atomic bombs, including the one dropped on Nagasaki.
After the war, the site continued to produce nuclear materials until the late 1980s. Today, the Hanford Site is primarily focused on environmental cleanup and waste management due to the radioactive materials left behind. The site is one of the largest and most complex environmental remediation projects in the world.
