Halocarbon
Halocarbons are a group of chemical compounds that consist of carbon and halogen elements, such as fluorine, chlorine, bromine, and iodine. They are commonly used in various applications, including refrigeration, air conditioning, and as solvents. Some halocarbons, like chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), have been found to contribute to ozone layer depletion.
Due to their environmental impact, particularly in relation to global warming and ozone depletion, many halocarbons are being phased out or replaced with more eco-friendly alternatives. Regulations, such as the Montreal Protocol, aim to reduce the use of harmful halocarbons and promote safer substitutes.
