Haile Selassie
Haile Selassie was the Emperor of Ethiopia from 1930 to 1974. He is known for his efforts to modernize the country and for his role in the establishment of the Organization of African Unity. Selassie was a prominent figure in the fight against colonialism in Africa and became a symbol of African independence.
Born on July 23, 1892, Selassie was originally named Ras Bitwaddad Tesemma. He ascended to the throne after the death of Empress Menen Asfaw. His reign faced challenges, including the Italian invasion in 1935, but he regained power in 1941 with the help of British forces.
