HMS Formidable
HMS Formidable was a British aircraft carrier of the Audacious class, launched in 1940. She played a significant role during World War II, participating in various operations, including the D-Day landings in 1944. The ship was designed to carry and operate a range of aircraft, enhancing the Royal Navy's capabilities at sea.
In 1942, HMS Formidable was heavily damaged by a German submarine attack but was repaired and returned to service. After the war, she continued to serve until her decommissioning in 1953. The carrier was eventually sold for scrap in 1958, marking the end of her operational life.
