H.A. Rey, born Hans Augusto Reyersbach in 1898, was a German-born American author and illustrator best known for co-creating the beloved children's character Curious George. Along with his wife, Margret Rey, he developed the series that features the mischievous little monkey and his adventures, which have captivated young readers since the first book was published in 1941.
The Reys fled Europe during World War II, eventually settling in the United States.
