Homonym: Guy Fawkes (Rebellion)
Guy Fawkes was a British soldier and member of the Gunpowder Plot, a group of conspirators who aimed to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London on November 5, 1605. Their goal was to assassinate King James I and restore a Catholic monarch to the throne. Fawkes was caught guarding the explosives and was arrested.
After his capture, Fawkes was tortured and eventually executed for his role in the plot. Today, November 5th is celebrated as Guy Fawkes Night or Bonfire Night in the UK, where people light bonfires and set off fireworks to commemorate the failed attempt.
