Gudi (Festival)
Gudi is a traditional festival celebrated in the Indian state of Maharashtra to mark the beginning of the new year according to the Hindu calendar. It usually falls in the month of Chaitra (March-April) and is associated with the arrival of spring. The festival involves raising a decorated pole, known as the Gudi, which is adorned with a bright cloth, a garland of flowers, and a pot, symbolizing prosperity and victory.
During the celebration, families prepare special dishes like Puran Poli and offer prayers to seek blessings for the year ahead. People also participate in processions, sing traditional songs, and engage in various cultural activities. Gudi Padwa is not only a time for festivities but also a moment to reflect on new beginnings and the importance of community.
