Guantánamo
Guantánamo is a U.S. naval base located on the southeastern coast of Cuba. It has been used for various purposes since its establishment in 1898, but it is most widely known for the Guantánamo Bay detention camp, which was opened in 2002. This facility was created to detain individuals suspected of terrorism and has been a focal point of international debate regarding human rights and legal practices.
The detention camp has housed hundreds of detainees, many of whom have been held without trial. Over the years, it has faced criticism for its treatment of prisoners and the conditions of confinement. The U.S. government has made efforts to close the facility, but as of now, it remains operational.
