Greenwood District
The Greenwood District, located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was a prosperous African American community in the early 20th century. Known as "Black Wall Street," it featured numerous businesses, schools, and cultural institutions, thriving during a time of racial segregation in the United States.
In 1921, the district was devastated by the Tulsa Race Massacre, where a white mob attacked the community, resulting in significant loss of life and property. Despite this tragedy, the Greenwood District has since become a symbol of resilience and a focal point for discussions about racial equity and historical memory in America.
