Green Pigments
Green pigments are substances that absorb light in the blue and red wavelengths while reflecting green light, which is why they appear green to our eyes. The most common green pigment in nature is chlorophyll, found in plants, algae, and some bacteria. Chlorophyll plays a crucial role in photosynthesis, allowing plants to convert sunlight into energy.
In addition to chlorophyll, there are other green pigments like chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b, which have slightly different roles in the photosynthesis process. Synthetic green pigments, such as phthalocyanine green, are used in various applications, including paints, inks, and plastics, providing vibrant color and stability.
