Green Belt Movement
The Green Belt Movement is an environmental organization founded in 1977 by Wangari Maathai in Kenya. Its primary goal is to combat deforestation, soil erosion, and environmental degradation by promoting tree planting and sustainable land management. The movement empowers communities, especially women, to take part in environmental conservation efforts.
Through grassroots initiatives, the Green Belt Movement has planted millions of trees across Kenya and raised awareness about the importance of environmental sustainability. It also advocates for policies that support ecological restoration and community development, contributing to both environmental health and social empowerment.
