Greek Trireme
A Greek trireme was an ancient warship used by the Athenian navy during the 5th century BCE. It was characterized by its three rows of oars on each side, allowing for greater speed and maneuverability in naval battles. The trireme was typically around 37 meters long and could carry about 170 rowers, along with soldiers and supplies.
These ships played a crucial role in the Greco-Persian Wars, particularly in the famous Battle of Salamis in 480 BCE. The design of the trireme allowed for effective ramming tactics, making it a formidable force in maritime warfare. Its construction and use marked a significant advancement in naval technology of the time.
