Greater Pelvis
The Greater Pelvis, also known as the false pelvis, is the upper part of the pelvic cavity. It is located above the pelvic brim and is bordered by the iliac bones on the sides and the lumbar vertebrae at the back. This area primarily supports the abdominal organs, such as the intestines, and plays a role in the overall structure of the pelvis.
Unlike the Lesser Pelvis, or true pelvis, which is involved in childbirth and contains the pelvic organs, the Greater Pelvis does not directly participate in these functions. Its shape and size can vary among individuals, influencing factors like posture and movement.
