Great Altar of Pergamon
The Great Altar of Pergamon is an ancient Greek monument located in the city of Pergamon, in modern-day Turkey. Built during the reign of King Eumenes II in the 2nd century BCE, it was dedicated to the Greek god Zeus. The altar is renowned for its impressive friezes that depict battles between the gods and giants, showcasing the artistic skill of the Hellenistic period.
The altar was originally part of a larger complex that included a temple and other structures. Today, many of its sculptures and reliefs are housed in the Pergamon Museum in Berlin, Germany, where they continue to attract scholars and visitors interested in ancient art and history.
