Gran Sasso National Laboratory
The Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS) is one of the largest underground research facilities in the world, located in the Gran Sasso mountain range of Italy. It is primarily dedicated to studying particle physics, astrophysics, and nuclear physics. The laboratory is situated about 1,400 meters underground, which helps shield experiments from cosmic radiation.
Established in 2000, the LNGS hosts various international research projects, including studies on neutrinos and dark matter. The facility is operated by the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) and collaborates with scientists from around the globe to advance our understanding of fundamental physics.
