Governors of Maine
The Governors of Maine are the elected leaders of the state, responsible for overseeing the executive branch of the state government. Maine has had a diverse range of governors since it became a state in 1820, with both Democratic and Republican leaders. The governor's duties include implementing state laws, managing the state budget, and representing Maine in various capacities.
The current governor, Janet Mills, took office in January 2019, making history as the first woman to hold the position. Governors serve four-year terms and can be re-elected. The governor's office is located in the state capital, Augusta, which is also home to the Maine State Legislature.
