Governor of Michigan
The Governor of Michigan is the head of the state government and is responsible for enforcing state laws, overseeing the executive branch, and managing the state's budget. The governor also has the power to sign or veto legislation passed by the state legislature, which consists of the Michigan House of Representatives and the Michigan Senate.
Elected for a four-year term, the governor can serve a maximum of two consecutive terms. The current governor is Gretchen Whitmer, who took office in January 2019. The governor also plays a key role in responding to emergencies and representing Michigan in national matters.
