Gove bauxite mine
The Gove bauxite mine is located in the Northern Territory of Australia, near the town of Nhulunbuy. It is one of the largest bauxite mines in the country, primarily extracting bauxite ore, which is used to produce aluminum. The mine is operated by Rio Tinto, a major global mining company, and has been in operation since the early 1970s.
Bauxite from the Gove mine is transported to the nearby Gove alumina refinery, where it is processed into alumina before being shipped to aluminum smelters. The mine plays a significant role in the local economy, providing jobs and contributing to the region's development.
