Govardhan
Govardhan is a sacred hill located in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, near the town of Vrindavan. It is an important pilgrimage site for followers of Hinduism, particularly those who worship Lord Krishna. According to Hindu mythology, Govardhan is believed to be a manifestation of Krishna, who lifted the hill to protect the villagers from torrential rains caused by the god Indra.
The hill is about 21 kilometers in circumference and is surrounded by various temples and sacred ponds. Pilgrims often walk around Govardhan in a ritual known as parikrama, which is considered a way to earn spiritual merit. The site is also associated with many legends and festivals, including the celebration of Govardhan Puja.
