Gorkhaland Territorial Administration
The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) is an autonomous administrative body in the Indian state of West Bengal. Established in 2011, it was created to govern the Darjeeling district and surrounding areas, providing local self-governance to the Gorkha community. The GTA aims to address the socio-economic and cultural needs of the region.
The formation of the GTA followed years of agitation for a separate state called Gorkhaland. The administration is responsible for various local functions, including education, health, and infrastructure development, while also promoting the unique identity and heritage of the Gorkha people.
