Gorilla Social Structure
Gorillas live in groups called troops, typically led by a dominant male known as a silverback. This male is responsible for the safety and well-being of the troop, which usually consists of several females and their offspring. The silverback maintains order and mediates conflicts within the group.
Within the troop, females often form strong bonds with each other and may help care for each other's young. Young males eventually leave their natal group to find their own troops, while females usually remain with their birth troop, contributing to the social stability and cohesion of the group.
