Google Lunar X Prize
The Google Lunar X Prize was a competition launched in 2007, aimed at encouraging private companies to develop innovative technologies for lunar exploration. Teams were challenged to land a robotic spacecraft on the Moon, travel 500 meters across its surface, and transmit high-definition video and images back to Earth. The prize offered a total of $30 million, with the grand prize of $20 million for the first successful mission.
Although the competition officially ended in 2018 without a winner, it inspired numerous teams and advancements in space technology. The Lunar X Prize highlighted the potential for private sector involvement in space exploration, paving the way for future missions and collaborations.
