Golf History
Golf has a rich history that dates back to the 15th century in Scotland. The game evolved from earlier stick-and-ball games, with the first recorded mention of golf occurring in 1457 when the Scottish Parliament banned it to encourage archery practice. The first official rules were established in 1744, and the Society of St. Andrews Golfers was formed, marking the beginning of organized golf.
The game spread to other countries, particularly in the United Kingdom and United States, during the 19th century. The first golf club in the U.S., The Country Club, was founded in 1882. Today, golf is played worldwide, with major tournaments like the Masters and The Open Championship showcasing the sport's global appeal.
