Golden State Killer
The Golden State Killer is the nickname given to a serial rapist and murderer who terrorized California during the 1970s and 1980s. Responsible for at least 13 murders and over 50 rapes, he operated in various locations, including Sacramento and Southern California. His crimes were characterized by a methodical approach, often breaking into homes at night and attacking couples.
In 2018, law enforcement arrested Joseph James DeAngelo, a former police officer, as the suspected Golden State Killer. The arrest was made possible through advances in forensic technology, particularly the use of DNA evidence and genealogical databases. DeAngelo later pleaded guilty to multiple charges, bringing closure to many victims and their families.
