Goaltending
Goaltending is a basketball violation that occurs when a player interferes with a shot on its way to the basket. This can happen if a player touches the ball after it has reached its highest point or if it is on its way down toward the hoop. When goaltending is called, the opposing team is awarded points for the shot.
In NCAA and NBA basketball, goaltending rules are strictly enforced to ensure fair play. The violation is designed to prevent players from gaining an unfair advantage by blocking shots that are likely to score. If goaltending is called, the basket counts, and the shooting team receives the points.
