Gliridae
The family Gliridae, commonly known as dormice, includes small, nocturnal rodents found primarily in Europe, Asia, and Africa. They are characterized by their large eyes, furry tails, and a hibernation behavior that allows them to survive in colder climates. Dormice typically inhabit forests, woodlands, and scrublands, where they build nests in trees or shrubs.
Dormice are known for their diet, which mainly consists of fruits, nuts, and seeds. They play a role in their ecosystems by aiding in seed dispersal. There are several species within the Gliridae family, with the common dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius) being one of the most recognized.
