Gleaning
Gleaning is the practice of collecting leftover crops from fields after the main harvest. Traditionally, it allowed those in need, such as the poor or marginalized, to gather food that would otherwise go to waste. This practice has roots in various cultures and is often associated with agricultural communities.
In modern times, gleaning has evolved into organized efforts, often led by non-profit organizations. Volunteers work with farmers to gather surplus produce, which is then distributed to food banks and shelters. This helps reduce food waste while providing nutritious food to those facing food insecurity.
