Giovanna d'Arco
Giovanna d'Arco, known as Joan of Arc in English, was a peasant girl born around 1412 in Domrémy, France. She is famous for her role during the Hundred Years' War between France and England. Claiming to have received visions from saints, she believed she was chosen to lead the French army to victory and support Charles VII in his quest for the throne.
In 1429, she played a crucial role in lifting the siege of Orléans, which significantly boosted French morale. Captured by the English in 1430, she was tried for heresy and burned at the stake in 1431. Later, she was canonized as a saint in 1920.
