Giorgio Castriota
Giorgio Castriota, also known as Skanderbeg, was a 15th-century Albanian nobleman and military commander. He is celebrated for leading a rebellion against the Ottoman Empire, successfully defending his homeland for over two decades. His strategic prowess and leadership earned him a reputation as a national hero in Albania.
Born in 1405, Castriota was initially taken as a hostage by the Ottomans, where he received military training. After returning to Albania, he united various Albanian principalities against the Ottomans.
