Giant Ground Sloth
The Giant Ground Sloth was a large herbivorous mammal that lived during the Pleistocene epoch, approximately 2.5 million to 10,000 years ago. These creatures could grow up to 13 feet long and weighed over a ton. They primarily inhabited regions in North America and South America, feeding on leaves, fruits, and other vegetation.
Unlike modern sloths, the Giant Ground Sloth was much larger and had strong limbs, which allowed it to stand on its hind legs to reach high branches. Fossils suggest they had a slow metabolism and were well-adapted to their environment, but they eventually went extinct, likely due to climate change and human hunting.
