Giant Buddha of Leshan
The Giant Buddha of Leshan is a monumental statue located in Leshan, Sichuan Province, China. Carved during the Tang Dynasty in the 8th century, it stands at 71 meters (233 feet) tall, making it the largest stone Buddha in the world. The statue depicts Maitreya, the Future Buddha, and is situated at the confluence of three rivers, symbolizing peace and protection for travelers.
The construction of the statue took about 90 years, involving thousands of laborers and artisans. It is part of the Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which attracts millions of visitors each year, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of ancient China.
