Giant Buddha
The Giant Buddha, also known as the Leshan Giant Buddha, is a monumental statue located in Leshan, China. Carved out of a cliff face during the Tang Dynasty in the 8th century, it stands approximately 71 meters (233 feet) tall, making it the largest stone Buddha statue in the world. The statue depicts Maitreya, the Future Buddha, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Surrounded by the confluence of three rivers, the Giant Buddha was built to protect sailors and promote peace. Its construction took about 90 years, involving thousands of laborers. Today, it attracts millions of visitors each year, showcasing ancient Chinese artistry and religious devotion.
