Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia
Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia (GTN) is a rare group of tumors that can develop in a woman's uterus after pregnancy. It usually arises from abnormal growth of cells that form the placenta, often following a molar pregnancy, miscarriage, or normal pregnancy. GTN can be classified into different types, including choriocarcinoma and placental site trophoblastic tumor.
Symptoms of GTN may include abnormal vaginal bleeding, enlarged uterus, and elevated levels of the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). Diagnosis typically involves blood tests and imaging studies. Treatment often includes chemotherapy, and most women respond well to therapy, leading to a good prognosis.
