Georgios Papadopoulos
Georgios Papadopoulos was a Greek politician and military officer who played a significant role in the political landscape of Greece during the late 20th century. He is best known for leading the military coup in 1967 that established a military junta, which ruled Greece until 1974. His regime was marked by authoritarian practices and suppression of political dissent.
After the fall of the junta, Papadopoulos was arrested and tried for his actions. He was sentenced to life imprisonment but was released in 1977 due to health issues. His legacy remains controversial, as he is often associated with the repression of civil liberties during the Greek military junta.
