Georgi Beregovoy was a Soviet cosmonaut born on January 15, 1921, in the Ukrainian SSR. He is best known for his role in the Soyuz 3 mission, which took place in 1968. During this mission, he successfully docked with the Soyuz 2 spacecraft, marking a significant achievement in space exploration. Before becoming a cosmonaut, Beregovoy served as a pilot in the Soviet Air Force during World War II.
