Geoje Prisoner of War Camp
The Geoje Prisoner of War Camp was established during the Korean War in the early 1950s on Geoje Island, South Korea. It was primarily used to detain captured soldiers from the North Korean and Chinese forces. The camp was notable for its relatively humane conditions compared to other POW camps of the time.
At its peak, the camp housed thousands of prisoners and included various facilities such as barracks, medical units, and recreational areas. The camp's management aimed to provide adequate living conditions, which contributed to a significant number of prisoners choosing to defect to the South after the war.
