The geography of South Korea is characterized by its mountainous terrain, with about 70% of the country covered by mountains. The Taebaek Mountains run along the eastern coast, while the Sobaek Mountains extend through the center. The country also features several rivers, including the Han River, which flows through the capital, Seoul. South Korea is located on the Korean Peninsula, bordered by the Yellow Sea to the west and the Sea of Japan to the east. It shares a land border with North Korea to the north, known as the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
