Genko War
The Genko War was a conflict that took place in Japan during the late 13th century, specifically from 1274 to 1281. It involved the Mongol Empire, led by Kublai Khan, attempting to invade Japan. The war is notable for the use of advanced naval tactics and the significant role of the Kamikaze, or "divine winds," which were typhoons that destroyed much of the Mongol fleet.
The conflict consisted of two major invasions: the first in 1274 and the second in 1281. Despite initial successes, the Mongol forces ultimately failed to conquer Japan due to fierce resistance from the samurai and the devastating storms. The Genko War is often seen as a pivotal moment in Japanese history, reinforcing national identity and military prowess.
