Geniza
A Geniza is a storage space in a synagogue or Jewish home where sacred texts and religious items that are no longer usable are kept. This practice stems from the belief that such items should not be discarded disrespectfully, as they contain the name of God or other holy inscriptions.
The most famous Geniza is the Cairo Geniza, discovered in the late 19th century in Egypt. It contained thousands of documents, including religious texts, letters, and legal papers, providing valuable insights into the daily life and culture of the Jewish community during the medieval period.
