Genever
Genever is a traditional Dutch and Belgian spirit that is often considered the precursor to modern gin. It is made from malted grain and flavored with juniper berries, giving it a distinct herbal taste. Genever typically has a higher malt content than gin, which contributes to its rich and smooth flavor profile.
There are two main types of genever: Oude (old) and Jonge (young). Oude genever has a more pronounced malt flavor and is often aged in wooden casks, while Jonge genever is lighter and more neutral. Both types can be enjoyed neat or in cocktails, making them versatile choices for spirit enthusiasts.
