Jenever
Jenever is a traditional Dutch and Belgian spirit, often considered the predecessor to gin. It is made from malt wine, which is distilled from grains like barley, corn, and rye. The drink is typically flavored with juniper berries and other botanicals, giving it a unique taste. Jenever can be enjoyed straight, chilled, or in cocktails.
There are two main types of jenever: Oude Jenever, which has a richer, maltier flavor, and Jonge Jenever, which is lighter and more neutral. Jenever is often served in a small glass and is a popular choice in bars and cafes across the Netherlands and Belgium.
