General William T. Sherman
General William T. Sherman was a prominent Union general during the American Civil War. Born on February 8, 1820, in Lancaster, Ohio, he is best known for his strategy of total war, particularly during his famous March to the Sea in 1864, where he led his troops from Atlanta to Savannah, Georgia, aiming to destroy the South's will to fight.
Sherman's military tactics emphasized the destruction of infrastructure and resources to weaken the Confederate war effort. After the war, he served as the commanding general of the United States Army from 1869 to 1883, playing a significant role in the post-war reconstruction and the Indian Wars.
