March to the Sea
The "March to the Sea" refers to a military campaign during the American Civil War led by Union General William Tecumseh Sherman in late 1864. Starting from Atlanta, Georgia, Sherman's forces marched approximately 300 miles to the coastal city of Savannah, aiming to disrupt the Confederate war effort by destroying infrastructure and supplies.
This campaign was notable for its strategy of total war, which involved not only engaging enemy troops but also targeting civilian resources. Sherman's troops employed tactics that aimed to demoralize the South, ultimately contributing to the Union's victory in the Civil War.
