General Solomon Mujuru
General Solomon Mujuru was a prominent military leader in Zimbabwe, known for his role in the country's liberation struggle against colonial rule. Born in 1945, he became a key figure in the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) and later the Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF). Mujuru played a significant part in the country's independence, which was achieved in 1980.
After independence, Mujuru held various high-ranking positions in the military and government, including serving as the commander of the Zimbabwe National Army. He was also involved in politics, becoming a member of parliament and a vice president of ZANU-PF. Mujuru passed away in 2011, leaving behind a complex legacy in Zimbabwean history.
