General Sir Arthur Currie
General Sir Arthur Currie was a prominent Canadian military leader during World War I. Born on December 5, 1875, in Strathroy, Ontario, he initially worked as a teacher and a businessman before joining the Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1914. Currie quickly rose through the ranks due to his strategic skills and leadership abilities, eventually becoming the first Canadian commander of the Canadian Corps.
Currie is best known for his role in key battles such as the Battle of Vimy Ridge and the Battle of Passchendaele. His innovative tactics and emphasis on careful planning contributed to significant Allied victories. After the war, he continued to serve in various military and public roles until his death on November 30, 1933.
