Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak is an Indian literary theorist, philosopher, and feminist critic, known for her work in postcolonial studies. She gained prominence with her influential essay, “Can the Subaltern Speak?” which explores the voices of marginalized groups in society. Spivak's scholarship often focuses on the intersections of gender, race, and class.
In addition to her academic contributions, Spivak is a co-founder of the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society at Columbia University. She has also translated works of the Bengali writer Mahasweta Devi, bringing attention to issues of social justice and representation.
