Gato-class submarine
The Gato-class submarine was a type of submarine used by the United States Navy during World War II. Designed for long-range missions, these submarines were known for their effectiveness in anti-ship warfare and reconnaissance. They were equipped with torpedoes and had a displacement of about 1,500 tons when submerged.
The Gato-class submarines were built in large numbers, with over 70 units constructed. They played a crucial role in the Pacific Theater, contributing to the success of the U.S. Navy against the Imperial Japanese Navy. Their design influenced later submarine classes, including the Balao-class and Tench-class.
